Foreign Language

Print

1. Foreign language classes meet twice a week in room 102.

2. Students are expected to come to class prepared with the following:

          Kindergarteners – pencil and crayons
1st and 2nd graders - yellow folder, pencils, paper
          3rd through 6th graders – yellow spiral notebook and a pen/pencil.

3. If you are absent, please see Senora Jones (Mme Jones) to find out what you missed and do assignments.

4. Meeting only twice a week means all of your work counts heavily toward your grade. You will have fewer assignments, tests, and quizzes in foreign language class than in any other classes that meet daily.

Therefore, students with any missing work or low grades will find that their overall grade has been greatly lowered because of the weight that each assignment, quiz, or test has.

5. New this year: Homework will be given in grades 2-6. It will be due the next time you come to class.

6.  Students, Please do not hesitate to ask for help if there is something you do not understand.

According to the Chicago Public Schools Office of Language and Cultural Education, McDade Classical School has a FLEX  foreign language program. The term “FLEX” is an acronym for: Foreign Language, Elementary, Exploratory, or Exposure. It describes elementary school programs that introduce students to one or more languages and their cultures. Classes are provided once or twice a week. The goal is to motivate students to acquire a language later, and provide basic information about other languages and cultures.
